Dear Menlo Park City Council Members,
I'm writing regarding the upcoming review and approval of the proposal to "Save the Guild" theater, proposed by the nonprofit
Peninsula Arts Guild to not only maintain the site for indie films, but also enhance the offerings to include additional art,
literature, entertainment and musical performances. We personally loved the TeamLab show and hope for more great opportunities
going forward.
I encourage you to approval this proposal as Menlo Park is in desperate need of culture. Our family has lived here almost 8 years
and wish we could access culture more easily right in town amongst our own neighbors. Having grown up on the east coast where
there is an appreciation for old buildings with history and culture, I encourage you to elevate this opportunity and imagine the
positive impact this could have on the community at large.
As I understand it, the Peninsula Arts Guild is a nonprofit, backed by the local investors who are excited to make this unique
venue a reality. Its most intense use will be off hours, generally on weekend nights, not adding to peak traffic or parking demand.
If it is used for entertainment, it could help invigorate the sleepy downtown area which is an issue that has been going on for
years.Local people will spend their money locally, not only at the Guild, but at surrounding restaurants and retail venues.Since
we are dealing with local sponsors, you can rest assured that they will establish reasonable rules, so as to make this venue both
exciting and respectful of its neighbors.
We need your help in making this unique opportunity become a reality for a town that has long needed a boost in culture and
excitement to its downtown area.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
