Dear City Council,
Crossing Middlefield road at the existing crosswalk at Linfield is extremely treacherous for an adult and even worse for a child
walking or riding a bike. You either push the button when there are no cars around for miles (in which case its fairly useless) or
you can play Russian Roulette and push it when there is active traffic on Middlefield road and see a significant amount of the
cars ignore it. ("Warning traffic may not stop!"). I hate to think what might happen if a blind or disabled person tried to use
it. I will not let my bike age children use it without my being there - and I won't even use it myself after dark.
This is a shame - because it prevents easy access to wonderful Burgess Park and beyond for those of us in Seminary and WIllows
neighborhoods.
The proposed double HAWK beacon near the Fire Station on Middlefield road would be a welcome addition to improving SAFE access
across Menlo Park and I would feel comfortable allowing my young children to use it on foot or walking a bike.
I realize the council has many competing projects - but I am hopeful that this one can be considered a no-brainer.
