Dear City Counsel Members,
I do not support building a new library with philanthropist dollars unless there is a demonstrated need and the philanthropy
dollars are provided 1:1 as the taxpayers fund.
There are recent examples outside of California where the philanthropist for who the facility will likely be named withholds money
at the end of the project due to cost over runs or other random issues. At that point they have enormous leverage over the
community to create a shrine to themselves that they fully control.
If the philanthropist is the motivation to do this, their generous dollars should be spent in parallel to tax payer dollars.
I do not support a new bond to fund this library. It should come out of current taxes and a more disciplined approach to spending
tax revenues.
