I read an article on p.6 of the Jan. 30 issue of the Daily Post titled “Council rethinks closed street after complaints”.
I commend Mayor Combs for raising the issue since the northbound closure remains an eyesore and contributes to significant northbound traffic backups on Oak Grove Ave. and Menlo Ave. I am in favor of an open-minded reconsideration of the unusual and inconvenient closure that remains along one side of one block of Santa Cruz Ave.
A solid study of the situation might inform the Council and the community about the closure’s effect on traffic flow as well as its likely effects on the vitality of Downtown retail shopping and services.
As a resident living near Valparaiso Ave. and Johnson St. I find the closure induces me to cut through city parking lots and navigate the narrows of Maloney St. or take other detours far too often.
