Hello City Council members —
Please maintain safety as your number one priority for all transportation-related city goals, especially as it relates to children going to and from school by foot or by bicycle. Please keep your commitment to Safe Routes. I acknowledge that traffic, especially during rush hour, can be stressful; however, solutions for congestion that potentially threaten the safety of our children are simply unacceptable.
I have two young children; the older one will be at Hillview the year after next, and the younger one will be there a couple of years after that. We live on Olive St., a major thoroughfare for cars/walkers/bikers going to and from Hillview. Every school day we see firsthand the safety risks associated with kids walking and biking to school on Olive and then crossing at Santa Cruz to get to school. There have been too many injuries, not to mention close calls. Since we live so close to school, I’d like my children to be able to walk on Olive, crossing over at Santa Cruz, without risking their safety to do so.
Thank you for your consideration and commitment to the well being of our city’s children.
Sincerely,
Angela Evans
