Dear Council Members:
I am writing to express my support for prioritizing safety as you enter into discussions regarding congestion management in the City.
I am concerned that the City will default to quick-fix solutions like the widening of key corridors (a solution that provides only short-term relief) and de-prioritize more creative solutions to managing traffic that may be more complicated to implement (e.g., improving public transit options, making bike/ped facilities safer and more accessible, improving the retail and grocery options in East Menlo Park, etc.).
On a related note, when are we going to get comprehensive safe routes evaluations for all our Menlo Park schools? It’s been at least two years since an evaluation for Laurel was approved, but we’ve seen no action. I suspect other schools are lacking on this front, too.
