Bike safety in context of traffic mitigation

City Council Members-
I have two boys that bike to and from school--one at Upper Laurel, and one at Hillview. Between the two of them, they cross Willow
Road, Middlefield Road, and El Camino Real twice a day, not to mention the smaller side streets that they also navigate.
My husband and I love that they are able to get this physical exercise every day and that it gets our cars off the road (among
many other benefits that I won't detail here) and it is important to our family (and larger community!) that they are able to
continue riding to and from school.
They are savvy riders, and we have worked hard to make sure they know the rules of the road and make smart, proactive and safe
choices when they are biking. That said, we still worry about their safety every time they head out.
I am writing to you--my elected council members--to ask you to please make sure the choices that you make around traffic
mitigation does not compromise the safety of bikers and pedestrians. Please do address the traffic here (we also drive as needed
and hate the awful traffic!!!) but please do so in a way that is mindful of the bigger picture, and continue to build on the
efforts to make our streets safer for bikers and pedestrians.
Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully,Rachel RosnerMenlo Park resident since 2008
