Hello everyone,
SInce the current county mandate has been extended to not allow outdoor dining any time soon I think it would be best for Menlo Park to completely reopen Santa Cruz Ave.
It has been a dangerous situation with portions of the street still blocked with cars and bikes driving down the wrong side to get past the closure in front of my shop (between Evelyn and Crane streets) as well as people speeding through the parking lot trying to navigate around the closures.
I am surprised no one has been injured or killed yet.
The restaurants have all built extended parklettes in the parking spaces at this point that are going to have them and there really is zero justification to keep the portions of the streets close. Even after the restaurants are again allowed to reopen their outdoor dining areas with their newly built outdoor parklette seating areas will accommodate those diners with no problem. However, if someone is seriously injured or killed will be a much different situation that could I fear cause liability on the city's part.
Please completely reopen Santa Cruz Ave as soon as possible for safe travel.
