Hello Mayor Combs, Vice-Mayor Nash, Council members Taylor, Mueller and Wolosin,
I was the flickering hand raise in the meeting tonight and missed my chance to speak and was advised to write instead.
COMMENT 1:
I would like you to visualize yourself driving on Middlefield, making a turn onto Willow Road heading towards 101.
Willow Road, between Middlefield towards Gilbert is liken to a race car track due to two lanes merging into one, on a downhill slope, while cars build momentum as they race to be ahead. On this strip of Willow Road are all residences.
Ironically, the speed is remarkably slower on Willow Road from Gilbert to Bay Road, due to the intersections of Gilbert, Coleman, Durham, and Bay Road, have traffic lights. On this strip of Willow Road, are a mix of residences, businesses, school and a park adjacent to the school.
Going the opposite direction exiting 101 westbound on Willow Road is the exact same issue.
I would like to see this subject of Willow Road become a priority, going on its journey towards the top of your list.
This has been decades overdue and when the City is looking for improvements and goal-setting, having a safer city, I hope is one of them.
How can you force cars to slow down if you don't have the funding for traffic police for speeding tickets?
Permanent hurdles, such as crosswalks for pedestrian awareness and speed bumps/humps are substantial and cost-effective.
If speed bumps/humps will never come to fruition, then permanent stop signs should be the alternative.
COMMENT 2:
The other subject was downtown. Giving it a facelift, improvements of the sidewalks, lighting, etc.
If the City is going to beautify downtown, will post-pandemic, businesses reap the rewards financially?
My point is, pre-pandemic, we would frequent PA downtown more often because of the choices of cuisine but also, it is a more robust area due to their restaurants closing later.
If the City Council believes our city should be a quaint and quiet little town, then you are missing the mark when it comes to the residential part of Willow Road.
Please make Willow Road a priority for a calmer and safer streets and we ask this to be put onto the agenda.
If you would like more information, you can touch base with the CSC and Transportation Department with their ideas, reports and findings.
Thank you all for your time,
Alice and Daniel Hom
PS. I am more than happy to provide videos of dangerously speeding cars, buses trucks, etc.
