Please support Sharon Ave sidewalks

Honorable Councilmembers—

I write to express my deep support for sidewalks on Sharon Ave so that the hundreds of school children who attend Menlo Park’s other middle school, La Entrada, can get to school safely. I can think of no location in the City that is calling out for sidewalks and safety improvements more than Sharon Ave.

The Complete Street Commission has recommended installing a raised concrete sidewalk because it is the safest option. Safety must be the number one priority. The homeowners will still have parking options on the other side of the street. Please do not wait for an accident to happen before prioritizing safety. This issue has been studied - and the CLEAR safety recommendation is installing a sidewalk. Why have the commission study the issue to just ignore their recommendation? The CSC voted in favor of Option B (7-1-1) citing the benefit of a raised curb to separate pedestrians from bicycles and vehicles.

NOW is the time to make Sharon Road safe for pedestrians by adding a raised sidewalk.

Sincerely,
Laurie Sobel
