Honorable Councilmembers—
To echo the eloquent words of Laurie Sobel: "I write to express my deep support for sidewalks on Sharon Ave so that the hundreds of school children who attend Menlo Park’s other middle school, La Entrada, can get to school safely. I can think of no location in the City that is calling out for sidewalks and safety improvements more than Sharon Ave."
In addition to being safer, the concrete sidewalk options are also the much more aesthetic options. It has become a joke that my out of town relatives always comment on Menlo Park's love of asphalt. Enough of the asphalt. Let's make our city more beautiful and install raised, concrete sidewalks. It's the better long term solution as well and should be the direction in which the whole city heads. Indeed, raised, concrete sidewalks should be the standard in order to beautify our city and make it safer for pedestrians (thereby getting more cars off the roads).
Option B is well within the current budget and the Council should move forward with urgency to implement it. This has been under consideration for years. Residents can park in their driveways or on the other side of the street.
Thank you for your serious consideration of these concerns and the preferences of the La Entrada community.
Sincerely,
Nikki Sokol
