Request that the new 25mph for Santa Cruz be implemented

Dear City Council members,

Last night there was another injury accident on Santa Cruz Ave at the intersection of Avy/Orange/Santa Cruz Ave. With the new lane striping on Santa Cruz between this corner down past Hillview School to Lemon St, the traffic lanes are now 9’ wide — much better than the wider lanes previously.

Please remove the road blocks (pun poorly intended) that are keeping the speed limit along this road at 30 mph. It should be 25 mph. It would be much safer and the new narrower traffic lanes by having motorists drive slower and the slower speed are proven to improve motorist awareness - both critical safety gains.

Much of Santa Cruz is already 25 mph: From Sand Hill to the Alameda Y and from Johnson St through downtown. I had heard that the goal of MP transportation was to move to a 25 mph standard, rather than 30 mph. This would be a good time to do this now. Remove the hurdles and repost for 25 mph.

Thank you,
Ron
