Hello Council,
I've just read over the emails sent to you for tonight's goal setting me. I was very impressed with the ideas in Nathan
Henderson's email. I agree completely that a master plan is needed for Belle Haven.
While there was the Connect Menlo and Belle Haven Visioning efforts, these were mostly efforts designed to get the BH residents to
agree to higher density in returm for benefits and ameneties they have yet to see. The recent CAFR report also includes brief
details about a even earlier plan to develop Belle Haven in the form of the former Community Development Agency that seems to
mostly have benefitted developers. The piecemeal and development-driven efforts in Belle Haven have not worked for the residents.
It''s time for new approaches driven by the community.
Would you consider the bold step of adding a Belle Haven Master Plan to your 2019 goals? I suggest a Council-endorsed and a
community-led process to develop such a plan? I am confident that you would have ample applicants for a Belle Haven master plan
working committee.
Annielka Perez also writes persuasively on similar topics: the need for a 1) Belle Haven Library, 2) a Liveable Belle Haven, 3)
Education and 4) affordable housing that's spread across all of MP. I've known for some time that the City has concentrated
affordable housing in Belle Haven. This is not only unethical, it's illegal according to the Fair Housing Act.
Miyko Harris-Parker also wries in support of a Belle Haven Library and a more liveable Belle Haven. I agree with these comments
too. Belle Haven should be the City's top priority.
