Dear Mayor Ohtaki and Council Members, i’m writing to ask for your support for AB 1745, the Clean Cars 2040 Act.San Luis Obispo
Mayor Heidi Harmon is collecting signatures from mayors throughout California by March 30th through the web form linked below.
AB 1745 is a top priority bill supporting electric vehicles. If enacted, it would require that allnew cars registered in the state
are zero emissions beginning in 2040. Ideally, we'd like to see faster action than that, but this is a critical backstop and
pathway to phasing out fossil fuels. More information about the bill is available at the link in the bottom of the email below.
As you know, cars and trucks are the largest pollution source in Menlo Park, and phasing out fossil fuel vehicles is one of the
most important steps we can take to address climate change. Menlo Park already has some of the highest rates of clean, electric
cars – more than 15% of new purchases last year and expected to grow rapidly. While we work to support more convenient and safe
alternatives to driving, it’s important to ensure that the cars that remain on the road are clean.
I hope you can support this important state bill that will help Menlo Park meet its climate goals!Warm regards,DianeDiane Bailey |Executive Director

Subject:Clean Cars Act
Fellow Climate Mayors,
I'm writing to invite you to join me in supporting groundbreaking legislation that will clean our air, make California a global
leader in green jobs and cement our position as a national leader in clean transportation. Sponsored by Assemblymember Phil Ting,
the Clean Cars 2040 Act, AB 1745, would require that all new passenger vehicles registered in California after 2040 must be zero
emissions. It's a big step, a bold challenge and an achievable goal.
Please add your name to the list usingthis webform

As you know, local governments are on the front lines in the fight for clean air and to prevent global climate change. Cities will
be the first to deal with sea level rise, wildfires, droughts and the other impacts of a warming world. Cities are where the
impacts of smog and particulates and the risks of oil spills are felt first. So we should be part of advocating for solutions to
these problems on behalf of the communities that we represent.
That's why I'm working with my friends at Stand.earth to circulate this sign on letter to mayors around the state. Will you join
me in supporting this important piece of legislation?
Our first and most crucial hurdle is to pass the bill out of the Assembly Transportation Committee. This sign on support letter is
addressed to Assemblymember Frazier who chairs the committee -- a copy will also be sent to each member. We will be collecting
signatures throughout March (please sign by 3/30) and submitting them the first week in April.
Additional information about AB 1745 is availablehere

In Solidarity,
Heidi HarmonMayorSan Luis Obispo
