Dear City Council--
First of all, thank you for all of your work on behalf of our city. I know it is not an easy job, and I appreciate your service.
I understand that you are in the process of goal setting for the year. I hear that resources are limited in terms of staff time,
and it is impossible complete all of the projects that are being requested. I beg you to put the installation of sidewalks on
Sharon Road at the top of the list.
My older daughter currently attends La Entrada, and my younger one will be starting in the fall. If you have ever stood there and
watched the kids stream up Sharon Rd to La Entrada in the morning, you would be appalled. There are no sidewalks, so they trudge
through mud puddles and dodge cars. Often, vehicles are parked on the shoulder, which requires them to go around the vehicle into
traffic to pass. My daughter was almost hit doing so last week. I sometimes think I should drive her since it would be safer, but
we live a block and a half away! It is crazy to drive such a short distance! And doing so would only add to the traffic problem.
Dozens of children walk up and down Sharon Rd every day to and from La Entrada. In addition, as one of the few routes up to Sharon
Heights, it is frequented by joggers, neighbors out walking their dogs, and people walking up to the Sharon Heights Shopping
Center. Installing sidewalks would help a wide range of people, not just students.
The current state of Sharon Rd is dangerous and shameful. It is only a matter of time before someone it hit by a car and seriously
injured or killed. Installing sidewalks along just one block, between Alameda and Altschul, would make things so much safer and be
appreciated by so many of us. I beg you to dedicate staff time and resources to making this happen ASAP!
thank you so much,Linda Barman,
