Dear Mayor Mueller and Members of the City Council,
I urge you to reject the Tenant Relocation Assistance Ordinance proposed by the City’s Housing Commission. I have been a housing
provider in Menlo Park for thirty years and see this legislation as rent control and just cause eviction in disguise.
Though perhaps well intended it, like all rent control regulation, will have the unintended consequence of discouraging new
development. Such development is the only real solution to the area’s housing shortage.
Rather than trying to make Menlo Park’s rental housing affordable by decree the City should adopt regulations that reduce
development costs.Only by embracing measures that trim development costs will Menlo Park stimulate the needed production of new
affordable housing that our growing vibrant community needs.
Thank you for your collaborative approach to addressing the region’s housing challenges.
Sincerely,
Curt Conroy
