Dear Mayor Combs, Vice Mayor Nash, and Council Members,
As a long-time resident of Menlo Park (for over 30 years now!), I care deeply about the safety, accessibility, and quality of life in our community. I strongly urge you to uphold the Appeal for 320 Sheridan Road and require the applicant to make necessary improvements to ensure this project truly serves its future residents and ensures the safety of all members of the community while also continuing Menlo Park’s commitment to providing access to affordable housing to all who wish to live here.
I’m hoping that you’ll re-open a conversation about providing the future residents of 320 Sheridan Drive with the entrance and exit to Van Buren Road originally proposed in the developer’s own Transportation Demand Management plan and in the City’s transportation analysis.
As a first step, I’d respectfully request that you please review the information provided to the Planning Commission by the Applicant and City Staff. That information is misleading in relation to the access to public transit. In addition, it contained conflicting details about bicycle and pedestrian routes, distances, and commute times that should be re-considered and clarified.
The question of a second entrance is a really important one. The second entrance would reduce commute distances and times, improve safety in case of emergency, and enhance the quality of life for the new residents of 320 Sheridan Drive.
I think it’s important to note that the Developer themselves have affirmed publicly their ability and willingness to construct this second entrance if the City requests it and the necessary right-of-way is provided.
Please help facilitate this process by upholding the Appeal and letting it move forward. I appreciate your time and consideration.
