Dear Councilmembers,
You'll be appointing some new commissioners at tonight's meeting. I'd like to suggest that, when you look at an applicant's
qualifications, you look at their geographic location compared to the rest of the commission and give them particular
consideration if they come from a part of the city that has been underrepresented.
In particular, as a member of the Complete Streets Commission, I know we suffer from limited visibility into the issues that face
Belle Haven since none of the current commissioners live there. There are many major developments coming up in the neighborhood
and having someone who has intimate knowledge of the situation on the ground would be very helpful when we are called upon to
review projects and provide guidance to city council.
I'd also like to say that I'm thrilled that we have several outstanding applicants for the Complete Streets Commission opening, an
indication of how interested residents are in improving our city for all modes of transportation. I really hope that we will have
similar interest in our next commission opening, which will be coming up in just a few months.
