I am writing in support of the CaltrainQuiet Zone study. I have lived near the railroad tracks for nearly 24 years and over time have noticed a dramatic increase in train traffic and in horn loudness. There are certain train conductors who are seriously obnoxious for how long and how loud they blast their horns. I have heard many train horns and I know that they can be much quieter, so those who are blasting them so loudly are doing it unnecessarily. When I am out of doors, the horn blasts have actually been painful and made my ears ring for minutes afterwards. The loud horn blasts not only hurt hearing in adults but in children as well. They also affect stress levels and may be related to other disease.
Our community and city have overlooked this for too long, and the solution is absolutely do-able and within reach. Please address this important community health issue.
