Title: Meeting Agenda Item K-2 - Approve the 320 Sheridan Project
Dear Mayor Combs and Members of the Menlo Park City Council,
I write to you today as Superintendent of the Ravenswood City School District to strongly urge your support for the 320 Sheridan Drive affordable housing project. This project represents a critical opportunity to provide much-needed housing for our community, including essential district staff who struggle to find affordable options near the schools they serve.
We have been talking about and working on this project for five years. On a per unit basis, this might be the most discussed housing project in Menlo Parks history. The project design has been as we promised and outlined years ago. It complies with the housing element the City Council approved. It complies with all objective safety requirements. It has passed through the Citys planning commission. It has received funding from the council and the county. I hope that after tonight we can move past talking and towards building homes.
We recognize concerns have been raised throughout this process, and the development team has responded with good faith adjustments. However, delaying or denying this project now would only exacerbate the very housing challenges we have sought to address together. We cannot allow endless debate to derail a legally compliant and much-needed solution for those who contribute daily to our schools and neighborhoods.
I respectfully ask the Council to uphold the Planning Commissions approval and allow this project to move forward without further delay. Our community needs housing, and our district staff need a place to call home. Please stand with us in making this vision a reality.
Sincerely,
Gina Sudaria
Superintendent
Ravenswood City School District
