School pools in some counties are about to permit water polo: many already allow competitive swimming. Burgess pool allows lap swims with reservations (even for the elderly and otherwise vulnerable participants) and provides child classes. However, the water exercise program has been halted for almost a year. The two classes previously taught by Sheralee Beebe are much missed by seniors who depend on them for pain alleviation, arthritis relief, post-surgical rehab, cardiac health, and social interaction. As far as I know, all of us in those two classes will have been fully vaccinated by mid to end of March. Also, when using private pools all aquacize participants have been using masks: something swimmers cannot do! Furthermore, many of those formerly in Sheralee’s classes did not even use the locker rooms.

This seems unfair, and an unwarranted restriction given the heightened precautions that aquacize participants take, their vaccination status, and the fact that, given Medicare and the various problems of old age, most of them are likely to be more closely medically monitored, and less likely to be exposed to the wide social interaction (and possible infection/contamination) than many younger people experience in their daily life.

Please prevail on Tim Sheeper to restore Sheralee Beebe’s classes at Burgess Pool with as few restrictions as common sense would mandate.
