Dear City Council,
I’ve lived in Menlo Park for 38 years. I’ve spent more time in surrounding cities downtowns; Redwood City, Palo Alto and Mountain View, than I have in Menlo Park as they’re more pedestrian friendly. Please consider making the Santa Cruz Ave. street closure permanent, for at least a year or two, until this pandemic is behind us.
Driving and parking on side streets seems adequate and I love the family friendly feel of open, pedestrian only, blocks with sidewalk cafes. The restaurants in the area have gone to considerable expense to accommodate outside dining, with barricades, tables and chairs and heat lamps. With the weather starting to warm up please give these restaurants a chance to benefit from their investment.
I am more drawn to shopping downtown now than I have been in years. Thank you for your consideration.
