Agenta Item #k-5 -- Quiet Zones

Dear members of the City Council,

I'd like to raise my voice in support, again, of establishing a quiet zone at train crossings in Menlo Park this year, particularly at Encinal and Oak Grove. These will improve safety due to quad gates and greatly improve quality of life for those of us who live on or near the train tracks.

The number of trains has increased and looks to increase more with electrification, and the honking of horns is relentless and at a high decibel. Train operators do not simply honk, but lean on the horns for the stretches between crossings. The noise also keeps us from going outside and letting our kids play in the backyard and opening doors and windows in the hot months; it also reduces the ability for us to congregate in safe socially distant modes when allowable.

Please do what you can to improve the quality of life in Menlo Park by supporting the establishment of quiet zones. It would be profound for us.

Thank you,
Adam Tobin
