Honorable Members of the City Council - I am writing to object to the City Council's decision to scrap the Library Commission's recommendation to fund a new library in the Belle Haven community center complex in favor of rebuilding the Main Library in order to accept a donation from John Arrillaga for that purpose. Menlo Park citizens in the Belle Haven neighborhood have been needing and waiting for a full library for a long time. The City Council should respond to them rather than a wealthy citizen willing to donate money. It is sad Mr. Arrillaga is unwilling to provide funds for a Belle Haven library, but that does not negate the City Council's responsibility to serve its citizens there.
