Historic Preservation Options for 80 Willow Road?

Good morning, Jen and Drew and Ray …

Before the Menlo Park Historical Assn or any other group of concerned citizens explores options for pursuing state or national historic registry status for the 80 Willow Rd Sunset complex (particularly the original bldg) I writing in hopes of determining where the city and/or San Mateo County has any intent to do so.

From what I have read today in the “Daily Post” article it seems the City can’t comment on any intent to ‘fight’ the project until the developer formally submits an application. I get that, but why can’t steps be taken NOW, ahead of a formal application, to seek historic designation status.

If the City/SM County, for whatever reason, does not wish to, or can’t (because of planning dept protocols) explore historic preservation immediately, would the City and/or SMC support (or at least not block) a separate citizen’s or initiative seeking such status? Or, is the city/couny developing its own plan for seeking historic status?

Mr. Heneghan apparently submitted his pre-ap in early December but floated the proposal last July. I don’t want to wait too long to take any actions we could or should be taking.

Thanks very much for your input and reply.

Sincerely,

Tim Johnston
