Today, I personally talked to the owner of Ruby LivingDesign at 730 Santa Cruz Ave.
Important: The employee you talked to was wrong. The owner stated that they are NOT retiring. They are moving (consolidating) to another of their locations (Mill Valley) and shutting down Menlo Park (after many years in our city) BECAUSE : (she stated
to me) The prospect of having housing built on the parking lots, the continued shutting off of traffic for the restaurants, the increased vacancies, etc. . . .  all of which made them decide to move away.
I also asked if they considered selling their business, and they said that it was not likely there would be interest, for the same reasons they are moving.
Please stop your plans for housing on the parking lots, BEFORE we lose more businesses in Downtown Menlo Park.
Thank you,

Also: Please note that there is NO LEFT TURN from northbound El Camino Real on to Santa Cruz, heading West. One must proceed north past Santa Cruz, Turn left on to Oak Grove, then immediately turn left on to Maloney, drive down an alley to Santa Cruz.
Then you are able to shop in Downtown Menlo Park.
This failure to be able to directly turn left onto Santa Cruz is an obstacle to a Vibrant Downtown.

Hi Michael, In my outreach downtown, I was told by a Ruby employee that the store owners are hoping to retire. Best, Jennifer

Has anyone on the city council contacted Ruby LivingDesign to see why they are closing?
Is it related to the shut down of parking behind their store?
Let me know what they say.
Thanks
