Honorable Mayor Keith and Council Members: Recently two members of the public spoke before you at the August 22, 2017 Menlo Park City Council meeting. Their topic was restoring and re-establishing an active, viable, responsible and appropriate PUBLIC ART program for the good citizens, visitors and others of the community. Why do you suppose they took their valuable time to come before you with this topic? I suspect because the topic of art can add LIFE and VIBRANCY to a community. Art comes in many forms, such as Paintings, Sculpture, Theatre, Dance, Murals, Literature, Theatre, Music, and Poetry, to name just a few. I'm sure it is for this reason, that most CITIES, COUNTIES AND STATES offer an active art program. Does Menlo Park? The Menlo Park Art Commission went dormant many years ago. Is it time to reactive it? If so, I suspect you'll have no trouble find qualified, interested persons who find art a passion and willing to devote their time and attention. It only takes you..... to accept applications and allow them to create a workplan, much like other Menlo Park Commissions and Committees. Thank you for your time, attention and service to the community. It's a big job, which is acknowledged and greatly appreciated. Respectfully, Jim Lewis Received on Tue Sep 05 2017 - 06:57:45 PDT
