Dear City Council,
I’m writing to you as the Chair of the EQC on behalf of the entire commission. We strongly recommend you make Climate Action and the Menlo Park CAP the top priority for the city.
Over the past year with the COVID-19 pandemic and the grid outages in Texas we’ve seen how grave the consequences can be when communities are under-prepared. We’ve also seen how quickly behaviors can change and adapt. The CAP adopted in 2020 will help ensure Menlo Park is prepared and that our community stops investing in infrastructure today that will become stranded assets.
As you approach the final round of prioritization for the city’s 2021 goals I encourage you to think not only of climate action as a city priority but how the decisions we make today across all city goals either help prepare our community and citizens for climate change. Funds invested today not only helps to lower the overall impact of climate change, but it also saves our community from greater financial costs in just a few short years.
Sincerely,
Ryann Price
Chair, EQC
City of Menlo Park
