Regretfully we have other obligations and can’t attend the Menlo Park City Council Priority Setting Workshop meeting in person. However, we feel strongly that Menlo Park needs to take up our annexation request now.
Waiting a decade for the city to respond to our annexation request is far too long. As it stands, we are being ignored by the city we live in and, unless the city does right by us, we will continue to be held captive inside an illegally gerrymandered Menlo Park.
While this problem was created by generations before us, it needs to be corrected now by us.
What we want is not too much to ask:
- to participate in local politics by voting and running for office.
- our law enforcement to be located in our own city — not two towns away— as the County Sheriff’s office has not adequately served our community.
- improved tree preservation efforts.
Additionally, being inside the city but encircled by the county leaves us without effective representation from either, resulting in missing out on six funded road safety projects, which impacts the entire community.
If we could be annexed by another city, we would. However, that just isn’t possible or practical. This needs to be fixed.
