Dear Mayor Combs and City Council Members,
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to addressing the climate crisis. I’ve written before, and I just want to say while the climate is heating up is no time to get cold feet! Your support of the Climate Action Plan last year put Menlo Park in the position of a true leader. There may be difficulties, but let’s not let skepticism about being able to reach the highest goals get in the way of trying to do so anyway.
For example, next time we need a new heating system, clothes dryer, or hot-water heater for our house, we’ll go for electric. But in order to replace our ancient but fully functioning Wedgewood gas stove we’d have to remove the kitchen sink and cut a hole in the kitchen wall to get it out. That’s not going to happen. But I’ll continue to do everything else I can to reduce our carbon footprint. Not perfect, but emphatically in that direction!
Please do continue to implement CAP so Menlo Park can continue to shine a light for other communities around the country. Please don’t let up on this important effort – we need all of the actions that were approved in the CAP to meet our 2030 target. Let’s start from where we are, and see how far we can go! Nothing is more urgent than doing all that is in our power to mitigate the climate crisis.
With appreciation for all you do,
Judy Windt
