Dear City Council Members, I urge you to do a better job negotiating the proposed development deal with Stanford. From everything I've read, the proposed deal will result in exponentially more traffic and stress on the city, with minimal compensation from Stanford. The intersection with Safeway is already an unmitigated disaster. Rush hour traffic is horrible. Getting in and out of the Safeway lot during peak times on weekends is a feat that deserves a gold medal. My understanding is that in similar circumstances with institutions such as Harvard and the city of Cambridge the university pays the town 25+ times the level of compensation currently on the table from Stanford. Can you honestly say this is the best deal you can get for the residents and taxpayers of Menlo Park? Please reconsider. This is a hot button issue for many.
