Concerned about Turner's Outdoorsman

Dear Mayor Grassilli and Members of the San Carlos City Council, I recently learned from a neighbor that Turner's Outdoorsman, a store that sells semiautomatic assault rifles, is planning to open a location in San Carlos later this year. I took a moment to browse Turner's offerings online https://www.turners.com/guns-rifles-semi-auto >, and I simply cannot believe that you want this store in our community. The mass shootings in Las Vegas, Orlando, San Bernardino, and Newtown were all carried out with assault rifles like the ones on Turner's website. Soon these weapons of mass destruction will be available for sale in San Carlos. Research shows that more guns leads to more gun violence. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2014/11/14/more-guns-more-crime-new-research-debunks-a-central-thesis-of-the-gun-rights-movement/?utm_term=.d00591631233 > Conversely, limiting the number and type of guns in a community reduces gun violence. In the twenty years since Australia banned assault rifles, there has not been a single mass shooting in that country. If we are serious about keeping our community safe, the last thing we need is more assault rifles, even from a store with a folksy name. For the sake of everyone living on the Peninsula, I urge you to take action to prevent Turner's Outdoorsman from opening its doors. Sincerely, Nick Taylor Menlo Park Received on Wed Nov 01 2017 - 11:06:40 PDT
