Dear Council members,
As a Menlo Park resident, avid biker, and district 2 concerned parent for alternative forms of transportation other than automobiles, please consider this communication as a formal request to continue with the City’s commitment to a) safe routes in our community and b) the Menlo Park Climate Action Plan.
The proposed infrastructure changes to Coleman Avenue are not enough on their own but are a good first step to help create safer commuter routes to work and school; and safer routes support the environment by encouraging and enabling more people to bike or walk, further reducing emissions.
As a next step, please also consider placing physical bike barriers between cars and bike lanes along the main thoroughfares (Middlefield, Coleman, el Camino Real), and purchasing the necessary street cleaners for bike lanes in order to protect both drivers and bikers from preventable accidents and importantly, to promote long-term, other forms of transportation besides car travel when possible.
Thank you for your support to help Menlo Park become a model city and a leading sustainable one!
Warm regards,
Dorene J. Martinez
