Good morning, Using the beautiful new interchange graphic on the City site: Every week-day afternoon, I wait ~20 minutes on Bay, with Dumbarton and other traffic to get to the Willow/Bay intersection. When I get to the temporary light at the Wilow/101 interchange, I wait behind Dumbarton traffic in a *shared* straight and right turn lane for 3-4 light cycles to take a right turn onto 101. While I wait, cars coming mostly from FaceBook get quickly and directly onto the interchange. Coming from Belle Haven/FaceBook, there are three lanes on Willow at the interchange: One straight, one shared straight and left turn onto 101 and one dedicated left turn onto 101. Coming from the Bay Rd and Willow direction, there are also three lanes on Willow at the interchange. All three lanes allow bridge traffic to go straight through. The third lane is a shared straight and right turn onto the interchange. Menlo Park residents are trapped daily in Dumbarton commuter traffic in that shared right turn lane. Suggestion: *Adjust lights at intersection of Bay and Willow to improve flow onto Willow from Bay - faster cycle turn. *Adjust temporary lights on Willow at the interchange - re-ballance cycle turn in both directions to balance traffic flow towards 101. *Provide a dedicated right turn lane onto the interchange for those of us coming from Bay and Willow -- just as there is a dedicated left turn lane for those coming mostly from FaceBook. Allow right-on- red if traffic permits. NOTE: With the four leaf configuration, those of us heading north on 101 to via the Willow West exit during commuter rush, pass a *serious* backup of Dumbarton traffic on 101 north heading for the bridge via the Willow East exit. In the redesign process, those of us who depended on that dedicated Willow West exit now share a single, combined Willow exit with that bridge-bound commuter rush traffic. Residents heading into Menlo Park (and other community destinations) going west on Willow, are also trapped in the daily Dumbarton commuter rush. Question: Will this be eased by dedicated right and left turn lanes on Willow at the interchange? How will this be managed by the new design going forward? I'd appreciate your thoughts on the recommendation - particularly from the experts on this string - Ms. Obesos and Ms. Nagaya - but also from CalTrans and FaceBook.
