Dear Menlo Park City Council.
I feel like we, the Menlo park residents who play pickleball, have been in a battle with the city of Menlo Park for the past three years.
We have provided study after study to the parks and rec commissioners.
As a resident of Menlo Park for the past 24 years, I would appreciate it if the city to NOT spend $85,000 on a study when a sound barrier and other essential items are needed.
Please see the list below.
Thank you.
Alicia Strauss
1. Sound barriers around the Nealon and Kelly Park courts with a priority for Nealon Park
2. Re-striping the Nealon Courts as permanent courts at a minimum. Its much more important to make the Nealon courts permanent and marked specifically for PB. The Kelly park courts get much lower usage for either PB or tennis, so if you want to save costs, just make the Nealon courts dedicated to PB.
3. Establish a fund for maintenance and repair of the PB nets
4. Repair all the lights at Nealon tennis courts
5. Provide some benches outside the courts at Nealon so players have a place to sit off the courts while they wait to play (which is very often). Making players wait on the court impedes play and creates safety issues both for players and those waiting.
6. Hillview Middle School is contractually obligated to contribute $10K every 10 years and probably has not made any such contributions. So lets access those funds and apply them to the enhancements noted above.
7. If there are additional funds available, apply them to creating plans for new dedicated PB courts at Burgess Park for longer term additional court capacity.
