Hello Mayor Combs and council members,
I am writing in support of the Parkline/SRI proposal to build 800 new homes, including 251 affordable homes. As a Menlo Park homeowner living in Vintage Oaks less than a mile away from the proposed site, I would love to see more housing here for the people who need it most. Ill support new housing pretty much anywhere, but this seems like a particularly good location with its proximity to schools, parks and downtown. As a bike commuter, every day I bike past (and sometimes am nearly hit by) the stream of cars stuck on Willow Road, people who work in Menlo Park but live elsewhere. Its bad for our environment, our traffic infrastructure and our town for so many people to leave here as soon as the work days over. I know that building new housing is a pretty thankless project for you all; its been really disheartening to see the misinformed but well-funded resistance to the downtown housing proposal, and Im sure youre going through it. But we need to build housing, not only to avoid ill-conceived builders remedy projects but because its the right thing to do for our town and the people who work here. I hope you agree.
Thanks,
Emma
