Dear City Council,
I would like to join Janet Davis in recommending the return of the complete Aquatic Wellness Programs at Burgess Pool. After swimming laps for many years, a shoulder injury made it impossible for me to continue to do so. I began attending the Aquatic Wellness classes for seniors about five years ago — and indeed, they have been an absolute lifesaver for me. In maintaining the health of my aging (71-year-old) joints, I am sure that I have been able to avoid joint replacement surgeries — and since arthritis in my feet stops me from walking as much as I would like, aquatic therapy is my best — and I would even say only — option. This program is popular and valued by many people, not only seniors, but also younger people who benefit from warm water therapy.
Burgess is the only warm water pool in the area that provides such a valuable service. I realize that the past year of Covid-19 restrictions has been terribly difficult for all of us and has put financial strains on the pool management, but I urge you to bring back the programs in full as soon as possible. Please schedule the classes from 9am on so that it is easier for seniors to get there.
Thank you for your consideration!
Margaret Tompkins
