Dear City Council,
What is happening at the intersection of Menlo Avenue and University Drive? Someone is building bulb-outs on either side of Menlo so all the traffic including cars turning right, cars turning left, and bicyclists will have to share the same lane. Our traffic department seems to be creating deliberate bottlenecks. The resulting congestion will make the intersection unsafe for pedestrians, cyclists, and car drivers.
Who came up with this idea and who had to approve it? Everyone involved should be removed from their jobs as they are incompetent. The project reminds me of infamous Santa Cruz Avenue islands which cost a lot of money to put in, caused chaos, and then caused a lot of money to remove.
Does anyone on the city staff have common sense? Do they believe that by making driving difficult, people will stop driving? No, they will just move other streets. Then the residents on these residential streets will demand speed humps, another bad idea.
Bulb-outs are also being installed Alameda de las Pulgas in the county. Is this latest fad among traffic experts? Don’t we have enough potholes to keep these traffic departments busy? The City Council should stop this insanity.
Best regards,
Anita Ochieano
