I am concerned that the parking lot project will incur numerous delays which are unacceptable to the State authorities. I propose that the Council request city staff to immediately identify a potential future housing site. Such a site could be smaller and in a less controversial location, and it would ensure that RFP/RFQs could be quickly submitted if necessary, and construction completed in a timely manner.
The early identification of this future site would help avoid repercussions from not meeting State deadlines, which will certainly happen because of lawsuits or citizen initiatives. In addition, the Council would not be forced to accept any potentially flawed development just because a deadline needs to be met.
