I'm writing to ask if you would lend your endorsement as an elected official to Climate-Safe California, an effort led by Joint Venture Silicon Valley and The Climate Center. The initiative urges state leaders to align California's climate goals with the most recent science, and to make our state emissions net-negative by 2030.
I'm joined today in this request by three members of the Joint Venture board serving in elective office like yourself: Santa Clara County Supervisor Susan Ellenberg, San Mateo County Supervisor Dave Pine, and San Jose City Councilmember Matt Mahan. These three have laid out the reasons why we urge your endorsement in this blog post. Please also be aware that other recent endorsements include San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, State Senators Dave Cortese and Josh Becker, and Assemblymember Ash Kalra.
We have already more than a thousand endorsements from business and civic leaders, but to catalyze decisive action we need many more. We are asking every elected official in Silicon Valley to sign on.
You can endorse the effort by simply visiting the endorsement page and adding your information. The page also provides a wealth of information and resources, including scientific citations.
We hope you'll act boldly on our request, which will empower our state leaders to do the same.
