Please do not reopen Santa Cruz Ave. to car traffic. The closure makes
walking and biking downtown much more pleasant, since its the only place
in Menlo Park that doesnt make you feel like you could get run over at any
time. Its also the only place in town where youre liable to see kids
hanging out. What a strange coincidence! If anything, please expand the
street closure and add some more reason to spend time there! A small
community garden, or some lawn games, like theyve done on Castro in
Mountain View, perhaps.
If you must reopen it to traffic, I beg you to at least choose the option
that maintains the picnic area. Weve given away enough space in this city
to cars. Kids already feel that people in power dont give a shit about
them, please dont continue to prove them right just to save somebody a 20
yard walk to get their starbucks.
