Dear Menlo Park City Council,
I just learned from my neighbors that the Menlo Park Council plans to
eliminate the Quiet Zone from its budget planning. Why on earth would
the Council do this? Menlo Park residents and businesses have been
advocating for a Quiet Zone for years. The engineering designs are now
nearly complete. It has been a huge success in Atherton.
Caltrain has done a tremendous job modernizing their fleet to eliminate the
rumble and pollution of the diesel engines. Please move the Quiet Zone
forward to complete the task of taking this infrastructure into the current
century.
More and more people are living near transit hubs. Their decisions to do so
benefit all of us. They and others who live near the rail line should not
have to bear the burden of train horns all hours of the day and night.
Thank you for your consideration.
