Dear Council Members,
I am writing to urge you to restore the Quiet Zone to the 5-year Capital Improvement Plan.
Each day, around the clock, residents and visitors are impacted by passenger and freight train horns. These blast impact sleep, health, local business, and quality of life.
Literally, hundreds of residents and business owners have personally advocated to Council in support of the Quiet Zone. I cannot think of another topic that has generated such active, broad-based support over so many years.
The city has invested significant time and money to complete an implementation study and engineering designs. At this point, the only obstacle is funding, and options do exist.
It’s hard to imagine why the City would walk away from something so important, and that commands such broad support.
While there are many competing demands for resources, few have the opportunity to improve the vibrancy of our city, and daily lives of so many, as a Quiet Zone. Please restore it to the FY26 budget.
Respectfully,
Marcy Abramowitz
