Please consider Tuolumne River Trust request from today

Hello City Council,

I just spotted an email from Peter Drekmeier from the Tuolumne River Trust in the email log, and though he didn’t contact me about this, I’m writing in on my own to support his request to add an additional appendix in the Menlo Park Water Plan re: the Design Drought. Please see his attachment.

I worked at Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) for many years a while back, and I focused on California water policy, including protecting aquatic ecosystems in balance with municipal and agricultural needs. At that time, I attended many meetings with the Tuolumne River Trust and came to know the organization as a reputable, reasonable, science- and data-driven entity.

I have met folks who now serve in an advisory role to the Tuolomne River Trust, including a former Executive Director, and think very highly of their work and analytical abilities. In the world of water conservation in California, the Tuolumne River Trust is well-regarded by disparate stakeholders.

Upon reading his letter, Peter’s request seems at first glance like a reasonable, forward-thinking action that can help create option value for Menlo Park (especially as it relates to new housing) while supporting an important conservation effort in our state. I encourage you to ask him questions if you need additional clarification about implications.

Though I’m applying to the EQC, I’m writing in as an independent, private resident of Menlo Park.

Sincerely,
Angela Evans
