Hi there,
I am writing to you because your arborist has been most unresponsive. I have a heritage tree (by 1 inch!) that is dead next to my house. It needs to be taken down. I submitted the permit request almost a month ago, called your arborist and emailed him multiple times and he has not responded or approved the permit request. The company that will take the tree down has also tried to connect to no avail. The tree is a threat to my house and that of my two neighbors. What can we do to accelerate? We have followed all the rules (report from registered arborist, request for permit) and the city has been unresponsive.

The most recent permit that we submitted took a little over a month before it was approved. However, the tree was alive, and since your tree is dead, and Matthew’s report confirms it, there is a chance that it might get approved sooner. Once the permit has been approved, it is a little difficult to try and get updates from the City, as in the past, the arborist rarely answers emails/phone calls. We will be able to schedule the project as soon as the permit is approved. I will go ahead and try to submit it today, and let you know if anything else is pending.

We have worked with Matthew Fried from Heartwood Consulting Arborists 650-542-8733, and I can schedule an appointment with him, or you can choose a different one (I include the link to the list below). Once we get the report, we will apply online, pay the city's fees, and add them to your final invoice. As soon as Mr. Bonner, the managing arborist inspector from Menlo Park, approves the permit, we can schedule the removal right away.
Let me know if you will call Matthew, or if I should call him, or if you prefer to hire another arborist. Matthew Fried is also the managing arborist inspector for the city of San Mateo, so you will have to pay him directly (he prefers not to receive checks from tree service companies).
