Request for Public Works Attention

Dear Mayor Taylor, Honorable Members of the City Council, and City Manager Murphy:

I write to request your help in redressing visibility around the tree/curb bulb-out at 218 Gilbert Ave. While I appreciate curb extensions in general as a way of calming traffic for cars, or preserving our heritage trees, the roads must also be safe for cyclists.

This particular curb bulb-out in the Willows neighborhood is inadequate. Due to limited reflectors and distant street lights, it is hard to see the extent of the curb at night. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way after a recent, serious fall.

I notice other trees and obstructions that may be hard to see at night have more noticeable reflectors or other measures to increase visibility on the tree itself, the curb, or both. It would be great if a simple solution could be implemented as a preventative measure to avoid further accidents.

Ive included photos of the tree/curb in question below.

Thank you for considering this request,
Rebecca
