Mayor Combs and City Councilmembers:
Im writing to you about the health, safety, and well-being of Menlo Parks
residents - specifically regarding AB306.
AB306 is a bill that would prevent the updating of state and local building
codes for residential units for the next six years. Critically, if AB306
passes in its current form, local governments, like Menlo Park, would not
be able to adopt local amendments to the state building code. This code
cycle offers several cost-effective options for Menlo Park and other
jurisdictions to consider (such as AC to Heat Pump, FlexPath, and Energy
Performance, among others). NONE of these could be considered if AB306
passes, removing a very valuable tool from the citys toolbelt needed to
meet its climate goals and improve the health, safety, well-being and lives
of residents.
Here is a link to a sign-on letter
for
local electeds. Would you be willing to sign-on?
Timing is of the essence as this bill could be heard in the Senate Housing
committee as soon as NEXT Tuesday June 24. The bill has also been referred
to the Senate Local Government committee. Its important for the chair
(Wahab) and members of the Housing committee to hear from those concerned
about the impacts of the bill before it goes to hearing.
Thank you for your service and consideration!
