Driver Safety on Oak Grove Ave. and in Downtown Parking Lot

Dear Members of the Menlo Park City Council:

As an employee & office director of AJ Tutoring (1155 Crane St.), Id like
to bring a couple driver/traffic safety items to the attention of City
Council:

1) The left turn from El Camino Real onto Oak Grove Ave. is
*extremely* dangerous
due to the presence of drivers wanting to turn left from Oak Grove onto
Maloney St. The intersection of Oak Grove and El Camino can easily back up
with folks turning left who cannot see that they are blocked by someone
trying to turn left on Maloney St. Would the City Council be amenable to
looking at solutions to this acute concern for driver and pedestrian safety
that would not harm the businesses on Maloney St.? Perhaps this involves
closing the left turn onto Maloney from Oak Grove and redirecting traffic
to the next street in order to turn safely.

2) The downtown parking lot in which I frequently park - between Crane St.
and University Ave. north to south, and Oak Grove to Santa Cruz east to
west - is *dangerously under-lit at night.* As a fully mobile person with
normal night vision, I can hardly see where Im walking in that parking lot
if I come out of work after nightfall.

3) Pedestrians need flashing lights at *every* crosswalk along Oak Grove,
in part because of the condition 1) that I highlighted above. Drivers are
worried enough about not hitting other cars, particularly at rush hour, but
Ive seen some very close calls with pedestrians in a legal crosswalk while
drivers navigate the nightmarish traffic. Pedestrians and cyclists simply
need blinking lights at every crosswalk for their safety.

Many thanks for your attention to my concerns, and please let me know if
youd like me to provide any further information.

Sincerely,
Christopher Dunlap
Menlo Park employee and Mountain View resident
