Good Afternoon Honorable Elected Officials and Community Members of Menlo Park, North Fair Oaks, and surrounding Redwood City Communities,
My name is Virginia Kroger and I am the community outreach coordinator for the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) of San Mateo County. I am fortunate to have the privilege and responsibility of community outreach and education. For those who may be unfamiliar with us, HICAP is a state and federally funded program that provides free, unbiased counseling and community education on Medicare and related health insurance issues. HICAP does not sell, endorse, or recommend any specific health insurance. HICAP counselors are registered by the California Department of Aging and provide confidential one-on-one counseling appointments both in person and over the phone.
In a joint effort with San Mateo County libraries, HICAP is hosting a series of seminars on Medicare during the months of April and May to help educate older adults about the program. I am hosting Medicare 101, which will cover the basics of Medicare and the updates in 2024 on Thursday April 4th at 1 pm at the Fair Oaks Adult Activity Center at 2600 Middlefield Road in Redwood City. And during the month of May at various nearby locations, I will be sharing the reality of Medicare fraud and some preventive steps that can be taken to protect ones coverage. It is my hope that residents of North Fair Oaks, Menlo Park, and surrounding communities will be able to attend. These seminars are free and open to the public, and can lead to one-on-one counseling appointments at a future date if desired.
I have attached the two flyers with the details, and all the libraries listed are the county branches unless otherwise noted. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you would like to schedule a presentation at a particular location.
Please know that you are invited to join us; it would be a pleasure to meet you!
Thank you in advance for your help.
