Dear Mayor Combs, Vice Mayor Nash, Councilmember Schmidt, Councilmember
Taylor, and Councilmember Wise,
I am unable to attend the City Council meeting tonight, so I am writing in
lieu of comment.
I am a Menlo Park resident, who has written to you previously about the
value Menlo Swim and Sport has brought to my family over the years. I am
deeply concerned about what I perceive to be a lack of transparency in
governance to solve the current issue with our city pools. At the last City
Council meeting, Council voted by a 3-2 vote to NOT give staff guidance to
do the objective work that would make it possible for Council to make a
decision that is in the best interests of our community.
As a resident, I would like to ask the City to put resolving this issue on
the agenda for the next City Council meeting. I am also asking all members
to transparently state any concerns and work productively together to
resolve them. Beyond aquatics, it is very important that our city have a
functional and transparent government to tackle the pressing issues of our
time, of which this is among the most simple. I am grateful for your
service and hope to support you as you resolve this issue productively.
